The duo writes, "We believe that, following several years of investment and effort, FuelCell Energy has made strong progress in reducing its fuel cell technology and manufacturing costs, and is successfully transitioning its stationary fuel cell power plant solution from the realm of R&D to an economically deployable renewable energy technology with a potential to become a part of the baseload generation mix. The unsubsidized cost of energy from FuelCell Energy's typical 2.8MW plant is now down in the $0.13/kWh range, and manufacturing costs have dropped roughly 70% over the past decade. Including benefits from Investment Tax Credit (ITC) and state-level incentives, the levelized cost of energy drops to $0.09-$0.11/kWh, which we believe is increasingly attractive relative to several states' baseload pricing, and able to compete with intermittent renewable sources."

GE is involved in almost every aspect of the shale revolution and made the grade for my 2013 Natural Gas Transportation portfolio. GE is making compressed natural gas (CNG) more accessible as a transportation fuel by partnering with Chesapeake Energy (CHK). Rich foreign buyers
The most interested buyers right now are foreign buyers. They represent one of the few buyers with the financial resources and the desire to acquire assets at a premium. That's one reason one of the quarter's larger deals saw Chesapeake Energy (NYSE: CHK ) enter into a $1.02 billion joint venture agreement with China's Sinopec. The deal was for a 50% interest in 850,000 of Chesapeake's acres in the Mississippi Lime. This deal is one of the many in recent years that saw foreign oil companies purchase oil and gas assets in the United States. Because of the capital required to explore shale resources, we're seeing more companiesexploreforeign jointventures as many U.S.-based producers have seen their own capital wells run dry.

Royal Dutch Shell (RDS.A) released its earnings this past Thursday and the market found nothing to commend. On the other hand, the price drop was appealing to me, as it's not every day that you see a 5% price drop in a company of this caliber. For your troubles it is also likely to be ex-dividend during the August 2013 option cycle. While there is still perhaps 8% downside to meet its 2 year low, I don't think that will be terribly likely in the near term. Big oil has a way of thriving, especially if we're at the brink of economic expansion.
