Leadership transitions in nonprofit organizations can be both a challenging and a promising time for an organization. New leaders come in with innovative projects, but often face internal barriers and a lack of resources.
Last week, the Open Society Foundations, founded by George Soros (left) in 1979, announced an initiative to provide key financial support for a new generation of leaders around the world to enable them to implement their initiatives.
The New Executives Fund is designed to give new leaders the discretionary support to implement the ideas that got them hired in the first place. It is the only available support of its kind for nonprofit leaders at the outset of their tenure, according to Open Society.
“New leaders share a common experience of deferring their visions because they are bound by constraints,” Chris Stone, Open Society’s president, said in a statement.
Top 10 Long Term Companies For 2015: Enerplus Corporation (ERF)
Enerplus Corporation, together with subsidiaries, engages in the exploration and development of crude oil and natural gas in United States and Canada. As of December 31, 2011, it had 322 MMBOE of proved plus probable reserves. The company also held a portfolio of approximately 380,000 net acres of land comprised of 75,000 net acres at Fort Berthold targeting the Bakken and Three Forks; 65,000 net acres in the Duvernay; 33,000 net acres in the Montney; 67,000 net acres in the Stacked Mannville; 30,000 net acres in the Cardium and other emerging oil plays in Canada; and 110,000 net acres in the Marcellus. In addition, it had 120 gross producing wells. The company was founded in 1986 and is headquartered in Calgary, Canada.
Advisors' Opinion:- [By RichardCox]
The first to look at is the Enerplus Resources Fund (ERF), which places most of its focus on Western Canadian properties in the mature development stage and is the largest oil and natural gas income fund in North America. For the second quarter, the company's annual production levels rose by 10%, and its diversified portfolio of high-quality growth resources puts Enerplus in a strong position to benefit from demographic trends and rising oil prices. Year-to-date, ERF has seen rallies of nearly 30% but the latest pullback in market valuations offers a new opportunity for investors to get long and gain exposure to energy markets without the added risks of companies that could be vulnerable to trade route disruptions in the Middle East (for example, in the all-important Suez Canal). With its $3.4 billion market cap and 6.4% dividend yield, Enerplus offers a stable alternative for playing energy markets and recent weakness in both commodities and the stock price itself should be viewed as a buying opportunity.

The biggest worry that some investors have about Pengrowth is that its dividend is large compared to its earnings. Similar issues forced Penn West Petroleum (NYSE: PWE ) , also a former Canroy, to cut its dividend a couple months ago. Although extraordinary measures have helped Pengrowth and Enerplus (NYSE: ERF ) sustain payouts at levels that were last reduced in the middle of 2012, both companies could eventually see further pressure on their payouts in future.

Canadian oil and gas producerEnerplus (NYSE: ERF ) announced yesterdayits June monthly dividend of $0.09 Canadian per share, which is equivalent to $0.09 U.S. per share at an exchange rate of 0.9699.

The first stock choice we look at here is Enerplus Corp. (ERF), which has most of its resources invested in Western Canadian properties that are in the mature development stage. This puts the company in a solid position (as far as risk protection) for two reasons: The company is largely shielded from potential supply disruptions if Middle East conflicts cause transport blockages at the Suez Canal. Furthermore, Canada holds its position as the largest source of U.S. oil imports -- nearly doubling what is sent annually by Saudi Arabia. Yearly numbers for 2012 put Canadian oil imports at roughly 2.8 million barrels in a supportive trend that helped second-quarter earnings at Enerplus rise by 10%. The fundamental sector outlook is suggestive of additional runs higher in Enerplus, and these should begin to gain traction once the external uncertainties (political gridlock, stimulus tapering) begin to resolve themselves. The stock also comes with a 6.4% dividend yield, which will help investors weather the storm if the recent declines in oil extend further.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Lee Jackson]
QR Energy L.P. (NYSE: QRE) is an energy total return home run for investors. This MLP after a recent acquisition is now one of the largest producers (2,300 barrels per day) in the historic East Texas oil field. Raymond James has a $19 target, the consensus is at $20. Investors are paid a huge 11.7% distribution. MLP distributions may include return of principal.

While I still think LRE units are undervalued, BreitBurn Energy Partners probably presents a more compelling case at present.
QR Energy (NYSE: QRE) reported a solid third quarter, with earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) up 13 percent to $69 million. Production was up 5 percent despite a disruption at some of it operations.
Distributable cash flow for the quarter was up 26 percent to $35 million, or $0.54 per unit, adequately covering its current distribution of $0.4875. (The partnership will convert to monthly distributions in 2014.) Based on Friday’s close, this translates into an annualized yield of 11.8 percent. Given that QRE’s solid performance came despite temporary production issues, it looks like a decent bet in the upstream MLP space for 2014.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Victor Selva] hem. Ever since the Chinese gaming market exploded into a multi-billion dollar business, this online game operator has managed to reach its competitors SINA Corp. (SINA) and Sohu.com Inc. With Founder and CEO William Ding holding the reigns, this company has taken flight, in particular with its efficient game publishing initiatives and in-house research capabilities. In this article I analyze NetEase Inc.'s past profitability, debt, capital and operating efficiency. Profitability Analysis
Profitability is a class of financial metric used to analyse a businessability to generate earnings compared with expenses and other relevant costs incurred during a specific period of time. In this section I will study several profitability metrics, such as return on assets, quality of earnings, cash flows and revenues. By analyzing these four metrics, we will be able to elucidate if the company is really making money.
In addition, I always compare a company's revenue growth and operating cash flow growth. Over the past three years, the company's operating cash flow has increased by 4%. The company augmented its operating cash flow from $4.073 to $4.224. I advise looking for companies with strong cash generation profiles.
ROA - Return on Assets = Net Income/Total Assets
ROA is an indicator of how profitable a company is relative to its total assets, and shows how efficient management is at using its assets to generate earnings. In simple terms, ROA tells you what earnings were generated from invested capital (assets).
